Statements Presented to the Council on City Centre Footstreets, August 2021

Yes, once again, we have presented a statement to the council on city centre footstreets… Despite it being over a year since we first spoke at a council meeting on this very topic…

On this particular occasion, it was a council Executive Meeting about the ‘City of York Council Recovery and Renewal Strategy – August Update‘ (Agenda Item 5). Buried within this agenda item was the ongoing issue of the footstreet extensions and how they continue to exclude disabled people.

The decision around making the footstreet extensions permanent will be made in November, assuming futher extensions are not put in place.

As well as ourselves, there were speakers from the York Accessibility Action Group and York Cycle Campaign, Jamie Wood and another individual all making statements against the footstreet extensions.
