Upcoming Events!

There’s some exciting things coming up! Book through the eventbrite links, or email hello@ydrf.org.uk. York Disability Week is 27th November to 4th December and the programme will be out soon so keep your eyes open for that!

How is the UK meeting its obligations to disabled people?

18th November, 1pm-3pm, online

This workshop will give an overview of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Disabled People (CRDP) and the shadow reporting process. Governements are required to submit reports about human rights and a shadow report is a way for organisations that aren’t part of the government to present alternative, or additional, information.

As part of the workshop, you’ll be able to help shape the next shadow report about disability rights in the UK.

What do disabled people want in York and how can we go about getting it?

24th November, 5pm-7pm, online

We recently asked you what your priorities are for disabled people in York – thank you to everyone who responded, it really does mean a lot to us that you’ve given your time to fill out the survey. We want to focus our time on what matters to you, our members, and to do that we needed to know what’s on your minds.

This will be a chance to discuss what we found out and how, together, we can take action and push for change where it’s needed. Come along if you want to share experiences and views with other disabled people and allies or if you want to get more actively involved in York Disability Rights Forum.

Cancelled: A conversation on Church, Disability and Faith

Sadly this event has had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances

Bringing equalities and human rights law alive in York

2nd December, 12-1pm, online

Join us to celebrate the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on its 15th anniversary!

Learn about the work of the Equality and Human Rights Commission in monitoring and reporting on the CRPD from its Disability Lead, Matt Blow. Hear from Professor Anna Lawson of Leeds University Law School/Centre for Disability Studies about the value of using equality and human rights law and human rights approaches in local activism.

Disability and race

2nd December, 3pm-4pm, online

An exploration of disability and race. A space to discuss disability and race, and how identifies interact in people’s experiences.

Meet us!

6th December 2pm-5pm, St Aidan’s Church Hall, Acomb

The week after York Disability Week, you’ll have a chance to meet members of York Disability Rights Forum and Community Voices in person. We know the internet isn’t for everyone and that it’s been really difficult not being able to meet in person so we wanted you to have the chance to talk to us offline.

It’ll be a social opportunity for people to come together, find out more about us, what we do and to meet other disabled people in York.

BSL interpreters will be with us from 3-5pm and we’re planning on having a quiet space for people to retreat to if things get overwhelming. If you have any access needs or questions, please get in touch:
